In short: Direct Driller is a magazine website, not a forum. There is no public posting here, so nothing you do on this site is published. We collect only what we need to run your subscription, deliver the magazine and meet our legal obligations. We never sell your personal data.
1. Who we are
Direct Driller Magazine (directdriller.com, the “Site”) is owned and operated by Agri Web Media Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 08406424, whose registered office is Hammerwich House Farm, Hall Lane, Hammerwich, Burntwood, Staffordshire WS7 0JP. Agri Web Media Limited is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy and is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under registration number ZC225798.

2. What personal data we collect
Your account. Your email address and password. These are held in our shared login system, which is used across Agri Web Media sites including The Farming Forum (you sign in at account.thefarmingforum.co.uk). Passwords are stored in encrypted form. One account works across all of our sites.
Your subscription. Your name, which subscription you hold (free digital or paid print), and — for print subscribers — your billing and delivery addresses, order history and invoices.
Payments. Card payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. We hold transaction records and invoices.
Collected automatically. Your IP address, device and browser information, pages viewed, and cookie identifiers (see Section 6).
Correspondence. Anything you send us by email, contact form or letter.
3. Why we use your personal data, and our lawful basis
Under the UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for each use of your personal data:
- Providing your subscription — creating and administering your account, giving you access to digital issues, and posting the printed magazine to print subscribers: contract.
- Sharing your name and delivery address with our mailing house, each quarter, solely so the printed magazine can be posted to you: contract.
- Taking payment and keeping accounting and tax records: contract and legal obligation.
- Service emails — order confirmations, invoices, renewal notices, address-change confirmations: contract.
- Newsletters and marketing — only where you opt in, and you can opt out at any time: consent.
- Security — preventing spam, fraud and abuse of the Site: legitimate interests.
- Analytics — understanding how the Site is used so we can improve it: legitimate interests, and consent for non-essential cookies.
- Legal matters — dealing with claims, court orders and regulatory requests: legal obligation and legitimate interests.
4. Who we share your personal data with
- Our mailing house — print subscribers’ names and delivery addresses only, for each print run, for delivery only.
- Stripe — our payment provider, which acts as an independent controller for payment processing.
- Our service providers, under written contracts — web hosting, Microsoft (email), Cloudflare, backup and IT support.
- Professional advisers — accountants, auditors, insurers and solicitors, where necessary.
- Law enforcement, courts and regulators, where we are required to disclose by law.
- A buyer of our business, if Agri Web Media Limited or the Direct Driller business is sold or reorganised.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not include Direct Driller subscriber data in any content-licensing arrangements.
5. International transfers
Some of our providers are outside the UK, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where we transfer personal data outside the UK we do so only where there is an adequacy decision covering the destination, or under the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. You can ask us for details of the safeguards used for any particular transfer by emailing [email protected].
6. Cookies
Cookies are small text files set on your device. We use strictly necessary cookies to run the Site, keep you logged in and operate the basket and checkout — these do not need your consent; analytics cookies that help us understand how the Site is used; and advertising cookies, used by us and our advertising partners (including Google) to serve and measure the advertising that helps keep the magazine free to read. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and ads served by Google carry an AdChoices control.
7. How long we keep your data
- Account and subscription data — for as long as your account is open, and 12 months after closure for audit and anti-abuse purposes.
- Orders, invoices and payment records — 6 years, as required for tax and accounting.
- Mailing-house export lists — for the print run they relate to, then deleted.
- Correspondence and complaints — 3 years; 6 years where a legal claim is possible.
- IP address logs — 12 months.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to: access a copy of the personal data we hold about you; have inaccurate data corrected; ask us to erase your personal data; restrict certain processing while a dispute is resolved; receive the data you provided to us in a machine-readable format (portability); object to any processing we base on legitimate interests; and withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it. We do not make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you by automated means alone.
How to exercise a right: email [email protected] from the email address registered to your account, or write to the Data Protection Contact at our office address in Section 1. We may need to verify your identity. We will respond within one month, and will tell you if we need to extend that by up to two further months for a complex request. There is normally no charge.
Right to complain: you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF — ico.org.uk — helpline 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to deal with your concerns first.
9. Keeping your data secure
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit, hashed password storage, access controls and backups. No system is completely secure, but we take our responsibilities seriously and will notify you and the ICO where the law requires us to in the event of a breach.
10. Children
This Site is not intended for children. If we become aware that we hold personal data of a child under 16, we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may change this policy. Where a change is material we will give notice on the Site before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when this policy was last updated. Continued use of the Site signifies your acceptance of this policy.
